A weekend trip

After looking at other people's blogs of their weekend ours might not look like an exciting and extravagant vacation, but it worked for us. At least we were able to go somewhere outside the Big Horn Basin, together. We were able to go on a trip to Guernsey. What is in Guernsey you ask? Honestly, not a whole lot. What is on the way to Guernsey? Not a whole lot. Casper is probably the biggest town on the way there. But we made it a fun trip. We went over the Big Horns to Sheridan on down to Casper. I just thought I would share our pictures that we took.
This is headed up the Big Horns, as you can see the Big Horn Basin just below. Very pretty view!
When we reached Casper we went the opposite way of Guernsey to go check out Independence Rock and Martin's Cove. Honestly, I never realized how big Independence rock was until we started to hike up it. It was a tough one, but it was definitely an experience.

This picture is of Matthew trying to climb Independence Rock. He did an excellent job. He didn't even bat an eye, he just started climbing. He really had a blast climbing up and around it.
Of course we had to take a picture of Mason's attempt at climbing up the rock. He had a better go at it then most of us did, as he was carried most the way, but he did take a few steps up as you can see.

This is the name that we searched and searched and searched for and finally found on our way down. Doc Holaday. He wrote his name in axel grease in a cave. The cave was actually pretty cool. Literally and figuratively. It gave us a nice little break as it was pretty warm and a rough hike. Ok, I might be making it sound a lot harder than it really was, but understand...I am WAY out of shape.

Our favorite picture of the boys in the little cave we found. Aren't they so cute?

Off we went to Martin's Cove. Our hope was to take a cart and hike to the actual cove, but we were really too tired and also the boys were getting restless and ready to be done, so we just checked out the visitor's center and a couple of the museum. Maybe next time.

After this we headed to Guernsey and spent the night there. We got up and had a hard time finding a single place to eat breakfast. Like I said, there isn't much there in Guernsey. After breakfast we went to Register Cliff and the Oregon Trail ruts.
This picture is just one of the many we took of the names in Register Cliff and also on Independence Rock. I found it so interesting how well they wrote their names in the rocks. A lot of them looked like they typed it on a computer. It was cool.

This was a nice "little" hill that the people walked up and left these ruts.

It was a pretty amazing trip. The best part was that we were together! The boys did well for the most part. It was kind of rough being in the car for so long, but we were surprised that they did so well.

I just had to share this cute picture of all but two of the grandkids on Kai's side of the family. We had a hot dog roast at our house and we were able to get them all together for a few seconds to get a picture. Aren't they so cute?

What a fun weekend that we had. Now we are back to our normal lives trying to keep up with everything and get everything done that needs to be done.

That sounds like a way good weekend! We have only driven up to the gates of Martin's Cove, as it was a Sunday when we went through that way. It looks like a great adventure. The kids are getting SO BIG! We are excited to see you this weekend.

Are you kidding me? You went to CASPER and didn't even stop by to say hi? I'm hurt! :)

It looks like we need you guys to be our tour guides on that adventure! I've never been to Martin's Cove, and I've always wanted to go. I like the changes on your blog, by the way. :)
