As was said in the last post, we went to Lily Lake on Saturday with some friends. It was a lot of fun and pretty relaxing. It was very pretty up there and actually a lot warmer than I had expected, which is the reason Mason got a nice little sunburn on his face, although I didn't think I had him in the sun all that much. We had a nice little barbecue and then went canoeing. This was my first time ever canoeing and I had a blast. I don't think I helped Kai much to row the canoe, but I liked to look like I was doing something. The first time I went out I was holding Mason. That was a challenge because he absolutely did NOT want to have that stinkin life jacket on. While trying to wrestle him to hold still in the canoe, I almost dropped him in the water because of the life jacket. Yeah, that freaked me out so we took him back to shore. Then the second time I went out with Kai I left Mason with our friend Jenna. Matthew absolutely loved it. He wished he could swim in it. I guess it is time for swimming lessons. Kai had a blast. Not only did he get to spend time with friends, but they went and caught a whole bunch of crawdads. Yep, they ate them too. I never knew they were so big. Like I said, we had fun.
Matthew getting ready to go out on the canoe for the very first time. He was way excited.

Matthew and Dawson George had a grand old time in the water. Matthew did not want to get out, thank goodness I kept the life jacket on him as he fell in a couple of times. Actually, he had the life jacket on because he was waiting for daddy to come back so he could go with him, but by the time he came back, he was freezing cold and needing his clothes changed. Oh well.

Just a view I have always loved coming off of the mountain. I just love the red rock.

The second first that happened was that I made my very first fruit pie. I have always been afraid to make one because I was always told that pie crust is hard to make and that you have to make it just right. Well, Kai's mom had brought over some cherries for us and Kai has been wanting a pie forever. So he finally talked me into trying. After pitting the cherries and figuring out what in the world I was doing, this is what came of it. This picture is before it got cooked.

When all was said and done, it had to be cooked longer than the recipe said, but it turned out great. Let me tell you, I am not a very big fan of cherry pie. Maybe it is because of the tartness of them, but these cherries are not tart, they are sweet and I actually can eat it. Kai thought it was good and Kai's dad thought it was great. It gives me a little bit more confidence so that maybe I can make more pies in the future. I actually thought it was a lot of fun, maybe cause it turned out so well. It was probably just a fluke, or maybe just luck. Kai says it is because he took it out of the oven. That's probably it. It wasn't me at all. :)
