Our 4th of July adventures

Alright, so me being the bad photographer I am didn't get any pictures of our adventure this fourth of July, so I guess you will all have to just imagine it all in your heads. We really didn't have anything planned, we just thought we would hop in on someone else's fun plans. We did plan on going to the Stampede Parade in Cody, which we did and it was pretty much a waste of time. We weren't sitting in a very good spot, and there were tons of people there, so we couldn't see anything. Matthew loved all of the bands and musical things that went by, because he could at least hear them. He kind of saw the little cars that the....oh whatever those guys are called for some hospital...the name escapes me, but they always drive their little cars around in parades. He liked those.

After the parade we asked Annette and Brian what they were going to do. Well, we just expected them to just say having a picnic or something somewhere. Nope, they were going to go camping. They asked if we wanted to come, so we decided we might as well. It would be nice to do something different and I have been wanting to go camping for a while. So, I know, all of you are saying, "Going camping when you are 8 months or more pregnant? You're crazy!" Yup, I am. But we had fun.

First off, it was hotter than blazes on Friday and you know how driving up onto the Big Horns is anyway when it is hot. Well, we were driving our pickup pulling a trailer with four four-wheelers on it. Apparently the fuel lines on our pickup are in a bad spot because it vapor locked on us like five times. Some of you may say, "what is vapor-locking". Well, just know that your vehicle pretty much dies on you cause it can't get the gas to where it needs to go. Yeah, that was fun. Then they all decided to take the air cleaner thing off to help keep it cool. So Kai gave me the nuts and things to hold till we had to put them on. Well, I guess some people need to know not to give a pregnant person something important. I put them in a safe place so that I wouldn't lose them and I would remember where they were. Yeah right. Couldn't remember for the life of me where I put them when it came time. So, in all the frustration of getting up the stinkin mountain, I added to it with my airheadedness. But at least we found them.

We got up there to porcupine and were trying to find a spot. Found one, but the mosquitoes were horrendous. Well, I guess they weren't as bad as the place down in Utah that we went camping to one time. But it seemed as though that they would even get worse in the sun. Crazy. Oh well. So, Kai and I aren't lucky enough to have a camper like everyone else did, so we tented it, without an air mattress. Like you say, "8 months pregnant?" Yeah, I did it. But sleeping on the ground didn't bother me as much as the fact that Matthew didn't not go to sleep until about 4:00 in the morning and then everyone else was up at like 6 or 7. He just wouldn't not go to sleep cause he "needed" a drink. Finally around 4:00 Kai got out and went to the pickup and got him a drink. He drank up and he was out like a light. Crazy kid.

Then on Saturday we went four-wheeling. Well, I went for a short ride cause I couldn't handle too much, but we saw a moose and that was pretty cool. It was a beautiful day up there. Found some really pretty places to take pictures of, but you think that I took my camera with me four-wheeling? Yeah right. I took the camera but didn't get it out once. I know, I'm horrible. Anyhow, by the time everyone got back from the other four-wheeling ride, we were all ready to go home because of our ornery kids and the blasted mosquitoes. So, off the mountain we went. Good thing it didn't take us as long getting down as it did going up. But, we hated coming down cause we could just feel it getting warmer and warmer and warmer every corner we turned.

As much as I enjoyed going camping, I now see why our parents didn't take us very often. I don't blame them. Camping with little kids is a pain, but it is also sure nice to get away from everything and just relax. I guess I could brave it again, but next time, we need an air mattress AND a drink to drink in the middle of the night.

That sounds great-- you are a trooper! I'm glad you went, even though you are 8 months pregnant. Feel free to camp with David and I next weekend on the front lawn, if you so desire. We could even pull the air matress out from inside so you feel at home! :)

Holy cow, Susan. I do totally think you're crazy for going camping when you're that far along. I went camping when I was 4 months with Kennedy and that was rough! But I'm glad you had a fun 4th of July.
